A dynamic duo of Greek mixologists has clinched a coveted €10,000 prize for their exquisite cocktail craftsmanship showcased in Cuba.
Renowned for its rum-infused concoctions, Cuba played host to a memorable evening beneath the iconic silhouette of Morro Castle, overlooking its majestic bay. Amidst this picturesque setting, 400 enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the epitome of Cuban rum, Havana Club, yet with a twist—none held the traditional Cuba libres, mojitos, or daiquiris in hand.
The occasion marked the culmination of an international competition, proudly sponsored by the esteemed Havana Club brand, a collaborative venture between Cuba Ron S.A. and Pernod Ricard. This showdown of mixological mastery saw 600 bartenders from across the globe vying for top honors.
Emerging victorious amidst this spirited contest were Panos Minoudis and Andreas Giaprakas, who regularly enchant patrons with their cocktail wizardry at Vogatsikou 3 in Thessaloniki. Their triumph resonated on a global scale, surpassing contenders from England, China, Spain, Brazil, and numerous other nations.
Highlighting the event’s essence, Havana Club’s global ambassador, Alfredo Guerra, remarked, “The uniqueness of the event lies not only in promoting the art of crafting individual cocktails but also in fostering friendship and camaraderie.”
Reflecting on the challenges of the competition, Alexandra Constantinescu of England shared, “I think the most challenging aspect is the time pressure.” Constantinescu, among the 16 finalists comprising eight teams, showcased original cocktails to the delight of attendees.
“As we hail from diverse countries, the flavors of the ingredients we use differ. The taste of bananas in England varies from those in Cuba, yet all cocktails were meticulously crafted and harmonized here, encapsulating the beauty of this gathering,” she added.
