Brasília, April 22, 2024: Tábuas Brewery, based in Campinas, São Paulo, emerges victorious in a prestigious cultural contest orchestrated by USA HOPS, a leading entity championing the American hops industry. This collaborative effort, in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil, aims to designate the beer that will commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and the United States.
The competition meticulously assessed various criteria, including the brewery’s adeptness at encapsulating the essence of the bilateral relationship into an exclusive recipe. The winning creation, the West Coast Pilsner, intricately blends 100% American hops, corn flakes, and cambuci—a native fruit of the Atlantic Forest. Characterized by its lightness, dryness, and refreshing nature, this beer boasts a citrusy and floral flavor profile. Notably, the cambuci ingredient is ethically sourced from the AUÁ Institute, an NGO dedicated to supporting small-scale producers in the Atlantic Forest while championing reforestation efforts in the face of climate change, deforestation, and human exploitation.
Out of ten esteemed Brazilian breweries vying for the title of crafting the “Bicentennial Beer,” Tábuas Brewery was bestowed with 40kg of American hops from USA HOPS to develop and produce their winning brew. Notably, the United States stands as one of the globe’s foremost hop producers, a crop not commercially cultivated in Brazil. The pre-launch of the commemorative beer was unveiled during the prestigious Anuga Select Brazil, the largest food and beverage fair in the Americas, held in São Paulo from April 9 to 11. Expectations are high as this novel libation is set to feature prominently in various celebratory events throughout the year.
Beyond the beer’s debut, the bicentennial festivities encompass an array of notable occasions, including an NFL game in São Paulo, the arrival of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier in Rio de Janeiro, and a series of educational and cultural engagements aimed at celebrating the enduring friendship between the peoples of Brazil and the United States.
