Uptown Charlotte bids farewell to a longstanding landmark as Green’s Lunch yields its space to a new establishment. Palace on 4th, a forthcoming cocktail lounge, is set to take over the premises previously occupied by Green’s.
Why it’s significant: Established in 1926, Green’s held the distinction of being Charlotte’s oldest restaurant until its closure last June. Offering a budget-friendly dining option amidst a landscape dominated by national chains, Green’s enjoyed patronage from a diverse clientele ranging from bankers to construction crews.
The development: The iconic Green’s Lunch mural has been recently replaced with a fresh artwork by local artist Swych19. Alongside this transformation, signage announcing the imminent arrival of Palace on 4th, an upscale cocktail bar and lounge, has been erected at 309 W. 4th St.
Background: The decision to sell the Uptown building housing Green’s, situated mere steps away from Truist Field and Romare Bearden Park, was made by its owners in late 2022. Having operated since 1926, the restaurant had been under the stewardship of the same family since 1975.
Anticipated offerings: Palace on 4th is poised to tantalize patrons with an array of craft cocktails and specialty hookah flavors, as revealed on its Instagram page. Operating hours indicated on its door suggest a catering to Uptown’s nocturnal denizens, spanning from 12 pm to 2 am.
Response from Palace on 4th: Despite attempts to reach out for comment, a spokesperson for Palace on 4th remained unavailable at the time of reporting.
