Norfolk Brewer David Plans Ambitious Beer Push for Charity

by Kaia

David Holliday, a brewer based in North Norfolk, is gearing up for another remarkable fundraising endeavor next year, aiming to support the male cancer charity It’s On The Ball.

David’s upcoming challenge involves pushing 75kg of beer over 340 kilometers in just seven days. Notably, this isn’t his first feat; previously, he pushed a beer barrel 239km to London and completed seven marathons in seven days across Norfolk last year.

“So far, the beer push challenges have raised £42,000 for the Norfolk-based charity and significantly increased awareness among young men, potentially saving lives,” said David. “But we aim to push that total to £60,000, aligning with my upcoming 60th birthday.”

Reflecting on the physical toll of his previous marathon challenge, David emphasized the need to push himself even harder this time to effectively convey the message.

For this challenge, David plans to stay based in Norwich and follow a set route along key roads, maximizing visibility and reaching out to young men about the importance of monthly self-checks for signs of testicular cancer.

“The work of It’s on the Ball highlights that young men aged 18 to 24 are most susceptible to this cancer. By checking themselves monthly, they can have a 96% survival rate,” David emphasized. “However, late diagnosis can prove fatal, as the cancer spreads rapidly.”

David’s strategy involves engaging young men in conversation during the beer push to educate them about the disease and promote regular self-checks. By initiating these conversations, lives can potentially be saved.

David welcomes individuals to join him or support him along the route, with live tracking available during the challenge for people to follow his progress.

“It’s not just about completing the challenge; we want to raise funds and reach our goal of £60,000 before I retire my beer push boots,” David expressed.

The challenge is scheduled for the first week of October, with route details to be announced later. In the meantime, supporters can follow David’s journey and donate via his Just Giving page.
