NEW WESTMINSTER – Steel and Oak Brewing Company’s innovative promotion offering a year’s supply of beer in exchange for branded tattoos has been cancelled by regulators.
The brewery, located on Quayside Drive, announced on Wednesday that it would award 12 customers who got a Steel and Oak tattoo with free beer for a year. However, by Thursday, the contest was halted following intervention from the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch, which informed the brewery that trading beer for tattoos was illegal.
“Well this is a bummer,” Steel and Oak posted on social media, expressing their disappointment. The brewery stated that while they still encourage their loyal customers to make a “forever decision,” they will need to find a new approach that complies with regulations.
Steel and Oak remains committed to engaging with their community and loyal patrons, looking for creative ways to promote their brand within legal boundaries.
