The Region of Murcia has gained recognition for its thriving craft beer industry, boasting 12 small breweries that compete strongly against larger brands, as outlined in the Socioeconomic Report of the Beer Sector in Spain. Murcia now stands as the twelfth province in Spain with the most craft breweries, closely following Madrid and Valencia.
Craft Beer Boom in Murcia
Murcia’s ascent in craft beer production is further underscored by the presence of malt houses and a significant brewery operated by the Damm Group in Espinardo, renowned for producing Estrella de Levante beer. Additionally, Murcia ranks among Spain’s top consumers of beer, alongside the Valencian Community and Albacete. Collectively, these regions consume 6.59 million hectolitres annually, constituting 16.9% of the country’s total beer consumption. Notably, beer consumption in Murcia has surged by 11.9% from the previous year.
Celebrating Craft Beer Excellence
Quality remains a cornerstone of Murcia’s craft beer offerings. Murcian craft beers, such as Cátedra Kolsch and Tipo Trigo de Yakka, have earned acclaim in Spanish newspapers, cementing their status among the country’s finest brews. This recognition underscores the dedication to excellence within Murcia’s craft beer scene, further solidifying its position as a rising powerhouse in the industry.
