During the event, the Wine Institute honored Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture, Forestry and Nutrition Committee, with the Wine Institute Leadership Award for her exceptional congressional leadership on behalf of the U.S. wine sector. Stabenow has been a steadfast advocate for specialty crops, playing a key role in establishing programs that support the wine and winegrape sectors.

California vintners also showcased their wines at a reception in the Great Hall at the Library of Congress, attended by more than 400 members of Congress, congressional staff, and administration officials.

With 6,200 wineries, California produces 81% of U.S. wine and over 95% of its wine exports, making it the world’s fourth-largest wine-producing region. California wineries significantly impact the U.S. economy, generating $170 billion in annual economic activity, supporting over 1.1 million jobs, paying $59.9 billion in wages, and contributing $21.9 billion in taxes.
