If Chenin Blanc was a star sign, it would without a doubt be a Gemini: known for its versatility, the grape variety juggles styles brilliantly, from the Loire Valley to the Western Cape, from crisp crémant to rich oaked whites and lusciously sweet expressions.

It is only fair that the grape variety gets so many days to be celebrated. Last Monday was Drink Chenin Blanc Day, the French association Fan de Chenin organises a Chenin Week starting 17 June, and in July, our very own Global Wine Masters will pay tribute to Chenin by organising the second edition of the Global Chenin Blanc Masters.
Last year, South African Chenin dominated the tasting as expected, providing fantastic examples both unoaked and oaked, and a great value for money.
On top of South African and French expressions, our inaugural Chenin Blanc-led competition also uncovered superb wines from unexpected sources, such as Big Head Winery in Niagara-on-the- Lake in eastern Canada, wines from Okanagan in western Canada, Maharastra in India or Pfalz in Germany.
In July, a judging panel composed of Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and senior buyers will gather to blind taste Chenin Blanc from all over the world.
Winning a medal at the Global Chenin Blanc Masters can help consumers identify the best expressions offered by the grape variety, taking into account the style and price range.
Entries are open for another ten days, to any Chenin Blanc varietals or blends with at least 50% of Chenin Blanc. Results will be published in the August issue of the drinks business magazine and online, putting your wine in front of thousands of wine professionals and enthusiasts.
